Alison is a School Health nurse and have worked in children’s health for over 30 Years. Qualified as a Children’s Nurse, General Nurse and Health Visitor in the Uk. Now a clinical nurse in the community supporting health choices and health improvement plans.

I am an infant and early childhood mental health specialist working in Early Intervention and in an out patient setting. I have specializations in trauma, attachment and disabilities. I provide child, dyadic (parent and child), family therapy as well as parent support and consultation.

John Bowlby stated that a child’s relationship with their parent is the center of attachment theory.

“No variables … have more far-reaching effects on personality development than have a child’s experiences within his family: starting during his first months … in his relations with both parents, he builds up working models of how attachment figures are likely to behave towards him in any of a variety of situations; and on those models are based all his expectations, and therefore all of his relationships, for the rest of his life.” – John Bowlby

We agree, LIFE is all about connections, and relationships; attachment gets greater with age: when we think of attachment we think about a child and their attachment to parents, as we get older, we start practicing attachment with peers, then with romantic partners… Eventually, you find a partner for life. Your attachment evolves and changes over to them; and then later in life, it is not uncommon to have your children take on caregiving roles with you as you age and so this attachment is not solely for children, it is about us and how we age.

My employer agency, the Benteh Wellness Center, provides mental health counseling and case management services for children and their families in the Matanuska-Susitna Borough of Alaska. Among other services, I facilitate Circle of Security Parenting groups to provide families with a foundation in relationship-based parenting.

I work with Parents and Children after family separation. Most COSP participants in my classes are separated parents with children showing signs of struggling to adjust to their parents’ separation. I offer a fee-for-service COSP course each school term, typically running from week 2 to week 8 of term. Separated parents of the same family attend during different terms. If I receive sufficient interest, I will offer an additional evening class during summer terms. Please contact me for details.
