As an experienced Occupational Therapist, my background and expertise is providing recovery-oriented psychosocial rehabilitation services to adults in community and inpatient mental health settings. After gaining extensive training in Perinatal & Infant Mental Health, I founded The Safe Embrace; a warm and welcoming private practice, that promotes perinatal healing within my local community and the Greater Newcastle Region.

Holistic occupational, psychological and embodied support is offered to individuals, couples and families who have experienced stress, grief, loss, trauma, or other challenges at any time during the perinatal period (from preconception, through conception, pregnancy, birth, postpartum, and early parenthood).

With presence, compassion, and gentle curiosity, and a developmental, relational, and trauma-informed lens, we slowly and safely uncover the complex biopsychosocial layers of each family member’s experience of this important rite-of-passage. These layers may be processed and integrated using a range of creative, somatic, occupational and psychological modalities, that are meaningful and tailored to the needs of the individual or family. A coherent narrative may then emerge; a holding, healing story, that enhances bonding, attachment, and the ability to engage in daily life.

Trained in a number of parenting programs, I am able to work with families from all backgrounds as well as cultures.

Have experience running Circles of Security for several years and particularly specialise in working 1:1 with parents coming from complex backgrounds (such as Department or service intervention) or traumatic histories.
